The Dongo Anyim – Support for Vulnerable Children and Street Youth to Help Them Reintegrate into Society Through Sustainable Agriculture project is a transformative initiative aimed at supporting vulnerable children and street-connected youth (SCCYs) in Gulu, Uganda, by providing agricultural training and sustainable livelihood opportunities. Implemented by Hashtag Gulu Initiative with support fromFédération Genevoise de Coopération and Eirene Suisse, the project seeks to equip SCCYs with practical skills in farming, facilitate their reintegration into society, and foster economic independence.
Throughvocational training in piggery, poultry farming, and horticulture, beneficiaries gainmarketable skills, access to land for cultivation, and entrepreneurial support. The project also integratespsychosocial support, family reintegration efforts, and community advocacy, addressing the stigma and barriers that SCCYs face.
By establishing asustainable agricultural social enterprise, the project not only creates employment opportunities but also contributes tofood security and economic resilience in Gulu. The initiative is designed to beself-sustaining, with farm proceeds reinvested into training and reintegration programs, ensuring long-term impact.
This project is acritical step toward breaking the cycle of poverty and marginalization, empowering SCCYs to leaddignified, self-reliant lives through sustainable agriculture.
