Yot Kom Aye Lonyo – Providing Better Prospects for Children Living on the Streets in Gulu
The Yot Kom Aye Lonyo project, meaning “Health is Wealth,” was a two-year initiative (February 2022 – January 2024) implemented by Hashtag Gulu Initiative with support from Latitude 21 and Eirene Suisse. The project aimed to improve the health, social well-being, and future prospects of street-connected children and youth (SCCYs) in Gulu by providing access to healthcare, education, life skills training, and psychosocial support while also strengthening Hashtag Gulu Initiative’s institutional capacity. The project focused on formalising SCCY care processes, expanding outreach services, enhancing knowledge on sexual and reproductive health (SRH), and improving organisational sustainability to better serve SCCYs in Gulu. Additionally, the project ensured capacity building for staff members of Hashtag Gulu Initiative, facilitated a one-year volunteer placement from Switzerland, and supported an exchange visit for Hashtag Gulu Initiative’s team leaders to Switzerland, allowing them to share experiences and build international partnerships.
